This week had no earth movers in terms of telecomms news but it definitely was interesting.

Firstly, Vodacom have introduced "More Minutes" for contract users. This allows you to choose between extra free minutes on the weekend or during of peak ours during the week. The amount of free minutes you get depends on which package you're on - a higher package will get more "more minutes". Once again, this points to something big happening behind the scene. Since when does a big company randomly start giving out free stuff unless there is (a) something newer on the way or (b) the opposition are about to come out with some killer new offerings. I personally think it's "b".

Secondly,  Blackberry have gone mad. New operating system on the way, new Blackberry Pearl 3G [why?] and new "Bold" 9650. Perhaps I'm mad, but why would anyone want that fiddly keyboard on the Pearl or a Bold that is inferior to the 9700? Pricing maybe? Well I'll wait for the demo's before I completely lose my mind about this...

By the way, for all Blackberry users, you can update you old Blackberry to have they newer version of firmware found on the Bold 9700.
